High School Special Education
Welcome! This is my first year teaching and I feel fortunate to have landed in the High School Resource Room where I hope to teach students skills that will help them improve their performance in the general eduation classroom. Each student who qualifies for special education has different needs and interests and I try to create individual lessons and experiences for each student while they work in the resource room. We also focus on life skills and prepare students to become contributing members of the community. Our Transition Skills class will again help with the Empty Bowls fundraiser in February.
I have expertise in the area of communication and writing. I have a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications - Journalism from Winona State University and worked as a newspaper reporter for several years. I more recently received my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Saint Mary's University with an emphasis on Communication and Language Arts. The H.S. Resource Room is also fortunate to have the help of two paraprofessionals: Chris Howerton and Traci Pederson. If you have any questions, please reach out to me by e-mail or leave a message for me at the school office.
The resource room is currently building its own mini-library. If you have any middle school or young adult books collecting dust, please send them our way. Our students enjoy having books to read at their reading level, so we organize them by lexile level.
